What google adverts work best?

This is a very common question asked, especially when you start out with google adverts on your website. So what Google adverts work. This depends very much on the type of website you have but generally you will be dealing with only a few advert blocks that will work. Infact there are a lot of rubbish advert blocks which really shouldn’t be offered because they simply don’t work. Here is a list of the top 5 best Advert blocks I have found with google ads:

1) 728 x 90 banner ad (text only) – This should be placed on your blog page just below the title of your blog post. As found on this website. Placing this advert block here has doubled my ctr when compared to say the large rectangle.

2)160 x 600 wide skyscraper (text and image) – This is a no brainer and should be placed on the right side of your blog posting. Why? because this is a natural navigation point for moving to another post or looking to move to another page. You could also place your navigation above this skyscraper however I have found placing it under the ads is fine.

3) 336 x 280 large rectangle (text only) – I rate this only because it can work if placed in the body of the blog or just under the title, I do however recommend placing the 728 x 90 under the title not this advert block.

4) 300 x 250 (text only) – Works well if you place near images on perhaps the homepage. Can also work ok within a blog post or at the end of a blog post. But this works best around images.

5) 120 x 600 (text only) – Works ok but if you template needs a smaller skyscraper however I would recommend using the wide skyscraper if you can.

These are the only adverts I use and find work the best, especially the top 2 ads.
